NaNoWriMo Ethnographic Writing Course – In this course students and other interested individuals learn the basic techniques of ethnographic writing and collection of stories through a series of lectures at our library. By the end of the course, all participants will be able to write (or record) a non-fictional narrative story using the techniques they have gained during the course.

This program has been supported by the English Language Fellow Program, the University of Prishtina, the Institute of Albanian Studies in Prishtina, and the Public Radio of Kosova.

How to Open a Business in Kosovo

How to Open a Business in Kosovo: Lessons and Best Practices – In this four-day entrepreneurship workshop, energetic students and young people are engaged in lectures and field visits to small and large businesses in Kosovo. They learn the basic knowledge on how to be able to open a successful business in the current market in Kosovo. The workshop ends with the presentation of business plans by all participants. This program has been supported by the U.S. Embassy Pristina – Kosovo, the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo, and the Kosovo United States Alumni Association.

Debates

American Corner Pristina hosts regular debates in weekly basis. Our current debate program is:

International Leadership Club (ILC) Toastmasters – In this program, young professionals, students and other interested individuals debate about current local and global issues. The topics of the debates vary and they include many fields such as social problems, political issues, and more.

 

The ILC is an independent organization which uses the American Corner space for the debates. The debates are held in English and they contribute to the everyday usage of English in our space.

Book Club

American Corner Pristina hosts regular book clubs in weekly basis. Our current book clubs is:

American Short Stories – This program offers a very good chance for university students and other interested individuals to learn more about American authors and their best works in the form of short stories. Moreover, it is a chance for participants to improve their English skills through debates and readings.

The club is currently being moderated by two American volunteers: Allie and Lauren.

Webinars

American Corner Pristina hosts regular online seminars (webinars) for teachers and students of English. Our webinars include:

Shaping the Way We Teach English – This webinar is offered through the American English at State website and offers teachers and students of English a chance to share experiences with fellow colleagues worldwide. The webinar is offered in six parts.

This program is supported by the Regional English Language Officer for Central and Southeastern Europe (RELO) which delivers e-certificates to the candidates who attend four out of six webinars.

Movie Night

Movie nights are quite popular events, where students and other interested individuals or groups come together to watch a film, discuss about it, socialize and have fun with friends and peers. Movie nights are also a very good chance for organized groups to come together and discuss about American culture and film tradition. We show various American-related movies both new and classics. Please consult our Upcoming Events to see if we are organizing a Movie Night on your interested date.

How to participate: Everyone is welcome to show up. However, since we also host organized groups to watch movies, we would appreciate if you could drop us an email letting us know that you are participating at: acpristina@gmail.com

Game Day

We organize game days for children of different age groups usually on Saturdays. Children and their accompanying parents/persons are welcome to join for educational board games, Wii video-games or other fun games. Please consult our Upcoming Events to see if we are organizing a Game Day on your interested date.

How to participate: Children of all ages are welcome to show up. However, we advise that children be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Since we host organized groups of children from schools and kindergartens on game days, we would appreciate if you could send us an email to let inform us that you are participating via email at acpristina@gmail.com

If you are interested to participate as a school/kindergarten, please send us an email a week in advance.

 

Speaker Series

American Corner Pristina hosts regular speaker events (presentation) for all interested individuals. The presentations are usually in English and related to a topic about America or Kosovo, or about the U.S.-Kosovo relations. Our current speaker series include:

 

Speakers from U.S. Embassy Pristina – American Corner Pristina holds monthly presentations by speakers from the U.S. Embassy Pristina in Kosovo. The presentations are usually focused on showcasing a distinct side of the American values and culture and come from a variety of fields such as: American political or legal system, U.S. geography, lifestyle, history, arts and culture, and more.

We also offer the chance to organized groups of professionals, scholars, or students to request a presentation on a specific U.S. topic. To arrange a presentation, please contact us at least one month in advance via email at acpristina@gmail.com.
